TITLE 'ONE'

We attempted to create a title with a variety of styles and fonts. At first we decided to follow a common theme of white, simple letters in block capitals but we found that it wasn't very capivating or interesting for the audience to look at. We then thought about experimenting with different styles of fonts, so we tried a font that was styled like graffiti but had drips that could almost look like blood spilt from the riots, or even a link to the blood lost (family lost) by Mickey - his mother. However, as a group, we discussed the look of the title and found that it may not be the look that we want because it has more connotations of Horror that it did Social Realism. For this reason, we used the same font but removed the drips and made a vague gradient of black to red with a white,

static glow around it to ensure that it could be seen above the dark archival footage played behind it.

COLOUR CORRECTION

We also used the colour correction tools in Final Cut Pro to alter the appearance of the some of shots. We found that in some frames, the lighting was extemely bright and we wanted to have a darker atmosphere to suit the connotations of an alleyway. It is also matched the storyline better to show that Mickey was feeling quite angry, upset, and 'dark' almost.

We also added blue undertones to some of the

shots because this gave it a darker more frosty or cold feel. The high-key natural lighting that we filmed in undermined the idea of it being an cold time of year which is a massive part of what allows the audience to sympathise with Mickey, because he's helpless and alone. We used some sort of trial and error process when it came to the colour correction and lighting alternations with our shots. Initially, we did not add the blue undertones

but simply made the shots appear darker by increasing

the 'blacks' and reducing the 'mids'. This did give the

look that we wanted but it still didn't look as cold as

we wanted it to as our intention was to have the

audience feel empathy and place themselves in

Mickey's shoes. This shot shown on the right was a shot

that had been edited to make darker and more gloomy

but the balance of colours hadn't been altered to focus

on blue colours. We found that the blue undertones

had a real impact on the appearance and so we

continued to edit the rest of our shots in the same style.

EDITING PROCESS

We made this write up of additions and changes that we made in our editing process, such as the changes and styles we attempted with the main title and the process of our colour correction when it came to finalising each individual shot.
