COSTUMES:

We designed costumes for each character in our opening to ensure that their appearance suits their role perfectly and the audience is given the correct impression. These costumes have been thought about carefully - the style, the colours and the type of person that would wear them - to match the outfits to the film genre adequately.

MAKEUP

Kayleigh used her makeup skills and practiced doing special effects make up that would make her look older. This makeup would be used on the actress that plays Mickey's mum as she looks  quite young as we were unable to cast someone of the correct age (middle aged woman) due to lack of volunteers to participate in our film opening. Kayleigh also used makeup to create the effect of dirty hands that are bruised and covered in ash and soot from fires that would have been common in the riots. They look very dirty which emphasises how are characters is homeless and doesnt have the luxuries of a bath.

To create  the illusion of age, Kayleigh used her makeup for discolouration and and eyebrow wax to create wrinkles and deep lines in the face as well as the chapped lips.

She used eye-shadow (the one she's pointing at) and a contouring kit for darkening the face as older people usually have discolouration in some places. She also used eyebrow wax for wrinkle lines by applying the wax and then using tweezers and bobby pins to create the lines.. The Wax was also used to make the lips look dry as well as concealer and loose powder to take away any shine and oil from the face.

To create bruises and dirty looking hands, Kayleigh added pigment of dark shades to her palms and around her finger nails to give the impression that they are dirty. She added purple and red to make it look like the hand has been badly bruised which is what you would expect to see if someone becomes part of a violent gang.

AFTER

BEFORE

COSTUME, MAKEUP AND HAIR

To ensure out cast looked like the characters we wanted them to portray, we use elements of mise-en-scene such as costume, hair and makeup to change their appearance. We completed this page on how Kayleigh went about creating the look of age and homelessness or dirt through the use of make up - she also explained the process and products that she used. As a group, we planned the costumes for each character and recorded them all (which can be found by clicking the grey buttons below). We did some research to find costumes that would suit the characters. by doing this this has allowed the  characters look more realistic.
