BBFC CLASSIFICATIONS
We carried out some research into how films are monitored. There are a number of different age ratings that the BBFC monitors:
The U stands for Universal and indicates to the audience that this film is ok for all ages, especially young children (4 years and above. U ensures there is no bad language, sexual behaviour, violence or talk of drugs involved.
PG stands for Parental guidance and this certificate is generally targeted at all ages and is appropriate for children of 8 years of older. A PG film may contain mild bad language. Sexual references are unlikely, violence will usually be mild and talk about drugs will not be focused on if it does occur in the film.
The 12A rating indicates to the audience that this is suitable for people of 12 years and over. The A stands for Adult which means if someone under 12 wishes to see this film they must have the supervision of an adult. A 12 or 12A film can contain strong language, sexual behaviour and there may be brief nudity. Moderate violence and dangerous behaviour such as suicidal thoughts may also be present.
