HAPPY-GO-LUCKY FILM TITLE ANALYSIS

Up until about a minute into the film, idents are shown for the companies who have sponsored the film. The titles of companies such as Summit Entertainment, Ingenious Film Partners, Film 4 and the UK Film Council. They are first shown individually, showing the varying logos and company icons, and then shown together in a uniform font and colour just before the main title sequence starts. The idents are center screen and are bright blue/red against a black background. This helps the companies stand out and engrain their icon into the audiences mind.
00:01:14 - Title: Sally Hawkins
The first shot we see in the opening sequence is a wide shot of the main character. She is shown on a bike which could suggest that our main character is someone who isn't wealthy and is actually an everage person who cant afford the luxury of a car. It could also indicate that this person is concerned about the environment, highlighting the characters selfless nature. The shot is cropped and is placed on the right side of the screen with pink text on the left hand side, stating the name of the actress. The text is baby pink which indicates that the character is quite innocent and content. This is supported by the costume of the character on screen as she is wearing a bright blue cardigan which suggests that this character is quite bold and has a bright personality. The composition suggests that the character is in their own little world, surrounded by the darkness around them which is shown by the black background. This could be foreshadowing of events to come. At this point, non-diegetic music begins to play which is quite calm yet has happy connotations which sets the situation as being quite relaxed and trouble free.
00:01:53 - Title: Mike Leigh
The credit of the director then appears after the main cast credits are finished. Mike Leigh's name is the first name the is from the crew which is indicated by the change of colour to a bright blue. This highlights that the new names about to appear on screen are the names of the people behind the scenes of the production. The composition has slightly changed as the box containing the character is now bigger and isn't surrounded from all sides with black however the substance within the frame remains the same as the main character is still riding a bike in a wide shot.
00:01:57 - Film Title: Happy Go Lucky
The title of the film is then shown at around the 2 minute marl which is conventional for many films as by this point, the main character or situation is usually established. The text changes back to pink to suggest that we are coming back to focus on the main character (who we first saw with pink text next to her). The background ,again, remains black with simple text over-layed which suggests that the character we are about to follow is very minimalist.
