TODOROV
This film follows Todorov’s theory as the film can be split into 5 stages.
1. There isn’t a clear EQUILIBRIUM in this film as it starts off with a fast paced chase scene showing that there is already a disruption.
2. The DISRUPTION is made clear when we learn what these girls are involved in and they end up killing the mobster.
3. There is RECOGNITION of the disruption when the mobster’s son, Stuart, begins a search for the girls who have now run away.
4. The RESOLUTION occurs when we see that Stuart lets the girls go as he realises that they are the true victims of the situation and shoots Kelly’s associate instead of her.
5. EQUILIBRIUM is restored when we see Joanna reunited with her grandma and they hug. This shows how order has been restored despite there not being much order at the beginning of film.

PROPP
A few of Propp’s character types can be identified in this film:

HERO: KELLY is our hero as we see her risk her own life to protect this little girl. These heroic acts show us that she is truly selfless and is on a quest to get Joanne to safety
VILLAIN: THE MOBSTERS are the villains in this film. One of them forces himself onto a little girl and his son leads a chase on our protagonist, causing them to struggle to survive and making Kelly resort to prostitution just so she can make some money to help Joanne.
DONOR: KAREN, Kelly’s friend from Brighton helps them out when they arrive there as they have nowhere to go and are all alone in this new place.
HELPER: JOANNE despite not being able to do much, provides Kelly with support and acts as a reason for Kelly to carry on her quest.
PRINCESS: JOANNE is the damsel in distress in this film as she is helpless and vulnerable without Kelly by her side protecting.
FATHER: NO ONE TO REWARD IN REALISM films as in reality there wouldn’t be a figure that would provide sanctuary or rewards for these gritty and controversial topics.
THE FALSE HERO: DEREK, Kelly’s pimp acts like he is helping Kelly and making her do what’s right even though he knows it’s wrong. He forces her to hand over Joanne and then chases the girls down once they run away.
LONDON TO BRIGHTON

Plot
The film starts full of action and chase. We find ourselves following a woman and child- they are running away from someone. They get on a train to Brighton. The film then goes back and explains why the girls are running; the girl, Joanne, has killed an old mobster with an unsettling taste for underage girls and then goes on the run with Kelly helping her escape. Kelly tries to reunite Joanna with her grandma but they are eventually tracked down and come face to face with the mobster’s son. He however decides that the girls are innocent in this case and lets them go but kills Kelly’s associates. The girls escape and Joanna is reunited with her grandma but Kelly realises she must move on and turns away.
