 KES                                                FILM TITLE ANALYSIS

00:00:07 - The Criterion Collection

00:00:15 - Metro Goldwyn Mayer (Production Company)
Logos of companies associated with the film take up the first thirty seconds of the film.

00:00:29 - Their bed
External diegetic sound of the sound ringing of their alarm demonstrates how they have to wake up quickly to go to work or school. They don't have the freedom to choose whether they can stay in bed and rest a little while longer. The medium shot shows that the bed isn't very wide yet is being slept in by two people, highlighting how cramped it is for them. It's also very dark in the room which can imply that it is the early hours of the morning, emphasising again that they are of the working class and may have to start their day having slept for only a short amount of time.

00:02:02 - Pulling the duvet
There is diegetic sound of the dialogue of the man telling Billy (the young boy) to get out of bed. The medium shot shows him pulling the duvet back over him while his facial expression portrays his frustration and the fact that he's most likely deprived of sleep. Although the lights in the room have been turned on, the room still looks very dull which can underline Billy's mood and the general atmosphere throughout the entirety of the film.

00:02:59 - Title: KES
The title of the film name is shown in a simple, white font in large capital letters. The style of this font can relate to the minimalistic nature of their day-t0-day lives. The fact that the film name is presented over the shot of Billy can show his significance within the film. The non-diegetic sound of calming flute music can have some relation to the countryside and Billy's comfort with the open fields when he later spends time with his bird.
